The recruitment of seafarers for ships managed and/or owned by our clients has been and still is our main business activity since the establishment of Marlow Navigation in 1982. Concentration on third party management avoids conflicts of interest with the owners who entrust their vessels to our care.
Nearly all of the approximately 11,200 crew members employed by us on board at any given time are recruited via our network of fully controlled offices. Applicants and ex-crew alike are carefully screened by expert former seafaring staff at these offices, to ensure that only qualified and properly STCW certified crew are accepted into the Marlow pool. The worldwide subsidiaries also ensure a close link to the crew employed by Marlow Navigation and they deal with any problems, needs and requests of our seafaring personnel.
Our clients are attended to by their personal crew superintendent who ensures that the right crew boards their vessels and that any additional needs are taken into account. The flexibility to provide every client with an individual solution is one of our most important goals.
To facilitate our clients' constant access to all the details of the crew on board their vessels, we have established online costumer access where owners and managers can check among others crew lists, crew certification, crew performance and scheduled crew changes. The permanently accessible database is a close link to crew and vessel and has also become an important tool for the fulfilment of ISM requirements of our clients.
Today, Marlow Navigation supplies crew to nearly every type of commercial seagoing vessel. A large part of our client base is located in Germany, a country with strong interests and high ownership in the containership sector. Therefore, it is no surprise that fifty per cent of the crew-managed vessels are cellular vessels.
For our Dutch clients we offer crew management services from our office in Rotterdam.
Services rendered are paid for monthly, on a lump sum basis. The total amount depends on various factors such as crew nationality, trading area, the type of union cover and crew complement; it covers the full spectrum of crewing services which Marlow Navigation provides to its clients in accordance with the crew management contract.
A broad range of crewing activities, a worldwide network of fully owned and controlled offices, our qualified seagoing and shore-based staff, continuous training, a close link between the client, the crew and the manager through the personal crew superintendent, and our commitment to detail enable us to offer first-class services to both shipowners and crew members.
